Yes they still have their uses, but mostly they are redundunt. (EDIT, unless your an UW farmer in which case they still work :/ )

well maybe most teams should not rely on someone standing in an aoe.

This was a great & long overdue update to mob AI. Echo Nukers will just have to learn to bring a snare (water magic FTW!), and/or not rely entirely on brute force echo nuking.

Just an FYI - The update did NOT nerf solo farming or otherwise - period!

Sure it made it more challenging or time consuming by making the AI smarter than you're average livestock, but in no way made it extinct.

Does it make certain high level mobs more of a challenge for the Ele class, sure it did but I also witness good tactics in a group last nite in the Ring of Fire and Abs Mouth that made AOE just as effective as ever. Took some thinking but worked just the same. So you can't just Echo Met Shower and wreck a pack of Mursaat anymore, big deal; they weren't intended to just stand there like henchies in the first place!!

Not sure what you mean by "redundant" as it relates to the update, but look at it this way. Fire Ele's are no longer the ONLY way to go for nuking - try an Air/Water Ele combo - Malestrom + Chain ligtening or some other combination. Or if you're a Fire Ele, have your team approach the mob from a specific direction so that when you cast a simple Firestorm and they back off....they back themselves into a corner where you can them hammer em with Met Shower! Hmmm took all of 2 secs to think of that last nite and VIOLA---------PWND

Bottom line it took brainpower to come up with solo builds, use that same brainpower to work around the update.

Kudo's to Anet for not giving us fish in a barrel!!! Like every other game

I don't seem to have any trouble all farming drakes, trolls, hydras, griffons, flesh golems.....I don't see how this update ruined the game. Shouldn't you WANT the mobs act more intelligently...doesn't that ADD to the enjoyment of the game? I'll just never understand PvE players....apparently all they want is for mobs to run up to them fall over dead and drop something uber.

Provided that Anet tweaks the AI a bit more to prevent them from running from weak AOE or 1 time AOE skills (as Elena previously mentioned).

People will adapt to how the AI reacts. Snares and skills dealling dmg to moving targets will now have a use in PvE.

This update did not make AoE redundant.... heck if anything it may have ended up improving AoE spells. Now instead of being only damage dealers they are also interupts and area denial skills.

When mobs are running around, they're not casting spells or using skills... gee I hate that.
When mobs are heading your squishy way, but run into a firestorm and they turn around... gee I hate that too.
Oh and I can do some damage while herding creatures... that's just rotten.

don't you all run away from AoE's in pvp and such? So what, the monsters are not retards now - what is the problem?

Sorry, I just think that they are making it moire realistic.

So if you are complaining about this, and you do not run away from AoE's yourself, take a lesson from what the mobs are now doing and be happy that you are taking one step closer from not being newbie.

This update is beyond awesome, and i am a farmer... i just really don't care, and i'll just find new ways and better places to "farm" for faster cash.

Updated ai is always a good thing in my book, i've been waiting for them to implement a way for ai to get out of the aoe spells... cmon, this helps the henchmen too!

You could always make yourselves a little happier by drawing little stickmen on your screen with a dry erase marker so it looks like they're not moving from your spells.

I think the problem is not to get some skill or a mind, I think the problem is more like, "Ok you have an elementalist character which is supposed to be able to play 4 magics, but now with that update you can only play 3", since 80% of fire spell line are AoE based, some more than others like Meteore shower or Fire storm, but the mobs also run away from a simple fireball, from a simple Inferno, even from an hex spell like incendiary bonds because its has a very small AoE effect, Hell this is an hex spell not a direct AoE based spell, so basically these spells: fire storm, fireball, flame burst, inciendary bonds, inferno, lava font, meteor, meteor shower, rogdor's invocation and searing heat will make the mobs scatter so basically 10 spells out of the 17 of the fire line will make the mobs scatter and then lose the aggro on the tank and attack other party players, so you can just say playing an Fire elementalist is totally useless since you ain't gonna have a really good dps only using Flare and Immolate and if you ever use one of the 10 spells on 17 that has an AoE part you'll cause your group big troubles messing up the aggro and getting your monks/caster killed in a second.

I didn't signed the petition because if it's jsut to complain bout farming I'm not interested, but I think this update is ruining the game since it's making many and many spells and even almost an entire magic for eles totally useless.

You are completely wrong, just use your brain and develop some tactics, learn to play on a higher level. Instead of standing around spaming meteor which makes you just as interesting as the mob that your spamming.

Oh and the sound of the fanbois filling the house.
This update killed Aggro Control. Fact. I couldn't care less for them leaving the AOE for a short time... but this kills Aggro Control. Now all you can do in PVE is the ****ing leeroy way of playing.

So then you prefer to have high level monster to scatter from the tanks when an elementist cast off an AoE only to charge towards the casters and murder the whole team?

Nope. I have an Elementalist Monk and I appreciate the new challenge. They are simply working to make the game more balanced so you CAN do whatever you want, have whatever character you want, and so previously "unpopular" characters like trappers actually have their place in a team now.

The exact same thing happens on Roleplay Neverwinter Nights servers. You find an exploit, and the admins fix it, ticking off everyone who used to take advantage of it, but saving the day for everyone else.

And in terms of Fire Magic. No. You just do what the other Magics have already done, use the single shots spells. This update has made it so now Elementalists can join Mesmers in the Shutdown role. Charged by ettins? "Oh no you don't!" Fire storm them until they reel from the pain and split. Maybe consider a fire-ice team where the Fire Mage makes a No Zone for the monsters with Fire Storm and before the monsters split your water mage Deep Freezes them so they not only move slowly out of the No Zone to take more damage but are barred from coming back through it because they fear pain now.

I'm even more glad that the henchmen have been given an intelligence boost. I did Perdition Rock with them last night and it was nowhere near as tough thanks to them not getting whacked by meteors nonstop. I just pity the snobby Monks and Elementalists who used to tick off people who weren't one of those two when trying to form parties. I'd gladly form a team now of Rangers/Mesmers/Necros who know what they're doing and fill the rest with henchmen.

Guild Wars is NOT all about farming. I'd rather have a semi-difficult PvE experience. I don't want it to be easy just so people can use one build to farm with.

This is not only azbout meteore, I love the idea that mobs just dont sit their asses under meteores, but FACT is the aggro control is dead since as you simply cast for example a Smite hex which has an AoE effect, the mobs will scatter and come back directly on the monk and make him their dinner, which is ruining the tanking system that was existing since the game was created.
of course creating new tactics and all the stuff is fun, but it's just killing oif the spells that have an aoe effect, and it's not only Metore shower and Fire storm since very class has spells with an AoE, for example smiting is just simply dead as the fire elementalists...

I'm all for making the mobs smarter (I primarily play an air ele, I've never liked how easy PvE was when using the fire line).

However, every single monster in the game now acts stupider than ever before (just in a cowardly way, instead of in a suicidal way), running away at the slightest sign of AoE and forfeiting any offense in the process (so you see, those Trolls didn't really want to kill you, they were just being really persuasive to let you know that you should always have SoW on yourself... because walking around in the southern shiverpeaks can be dangerous without it!).

I hope ANet improves on this update, and I hope they do it fast - it's not the first time they try to fix what wasn't totally broken by breaking it completely.

I wish they'd stick to events and bug-fixes, and save these "new features" for Chapter 2... so that I could not buy it and hope that they'd leave me the hell alone playing the game I paid for, and not some alternative version of it which I've never asked for. Either that, or just freaking learn how to actually *improve* the game.
